"Every war is a defeat. Everything is won with peace, with dialogue". These are the words of Pope Francis in an interview for Rai Uno television where he spoke about the conflict between Hamas and Israel.

Stopping at this situation, the Holy Father proposes a solution that, according to him, would end the conflict.

"They are two peoples that must live together. With the wise solution, two peoples, two states. The Oslo agreement says two very limited states and Jerusalem with a special status," said the Holy Father.

"It would be the end of many things and many lives lost. Israel, Palestine, the Holy Land, Jerusalem but also Ukraine affect us because they are wars that can be resolved with wisdom and humanity," the Pope emphasized.

The push for a two-state solution, one in which Israel would coexist with an independent Palestinian state, is also supported by the US.

Such a solution has been on the back burner since the last US-led attempt at peace talks failed in 2014 amid disputes over Israeli settlements, the release of Palestinian prisoners and other issues.

However, in recent appearances even President Biden himself has repeated calls for such a solution and has raised this issue in his conversations with other leaders.
