Istanbul's Sabiha Gokcen International Airport has been ranked first among Europe's 20 busiest airports for flight departure punctuality.
According to the latest report published by EUROCONTROL, the airport achieved an 88 percent on-time departure rate, surpassing the European average of 72 percent.
The news was announced by the head of airport operator HEAS, Faruk Kacir, who emphasized that the result is the fruit of efficient air traffic management, coordination between institutions, and continuous investments in infrastructure.
He also announced that the airport is preparing for further growth through terminal expansion, construction of a second runway, additional aircraft parking spaces, and digital transformation projects.
Located on the Asian side of Istanbul, Sabiha Gokcen International Airport remains one of Turkey's most important aviation hubs. In 2025, the airport handled 48.4 million passengers, of which 27.2 million were on international flights.
