Kurti publishes eight points: From reducing the police to early elections!
Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti

The Prime Minister of Kosovo, Albin Kurti, has made public eight points, which, as he says, lead to an escalation of the situation in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo, North Mitrovica, Zveçan, Zubin Potok and Leposaviq.

Kurti said that he proposed these points to the chief diplomat of the European Union, Josep Borrell, last week when the latter, according to him, proposed a 'table for expansion steps' of the situation in the northern part of Kosovo.

The first point, according to Prime Minister Kurti, means the fact that Kosovo is ready to "reduce the presence of the Kosovo Police in municipal buildings and around them", but this, according to him, is only done if the violence in that part is reduced.

The next point includes full access to the judicial processes of the perpetrators of violence, and monitoring of the processes by EULEX and interested human rights NGOs.

The next point involves early elections through the recall petition of the current presidents, which must be supported by at least 20 percent of the electorate in that part, and the last point involves the handover of authority from the current presidents to the new presidents, after the certification of the result. of elections.

Kurti said that Serbia is also expected to withdraw violent protesters from municipal buildings, to pledge cooperation in the detention and judicial proceedings of the perpetrators of violence during the protests in the north.

Further, Kurti said that Serbia should reduce the readiness of the armed forces as well as "not to hinder or interfere with the right of citizens of Kosovo Serb affiliation and all political parties to participate freely, without any intimidation, coercion or corrupt influence in the process of local elections in Kosovo".

"We believe that urgent actions must be taken towards this goal and we are eager and ready to commit to concrete steps that support the goals of de-escalation and stability in the region," Kurti wrote.

On Thursday, the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, supported the idea of an international conference for Kosovo and Serbia, with the aim of reducing tensions between them.

"I want to say that we also support the idea of organizing, as soon as possible, a conference - together with several EU member states", said Michel, emphasizing the need for coordination with the US in.

Tensions between Kosovo and Serbia have been increased by the situation in the north of Kosovo - an area inhabited by a majority of Serbs.

For a month now, the local residents there oppose the Albanian mayors of the municipalities, who emerged from the April 23 elections.

Their protests have also escalated into violent clashes between Serbian demonstrators and soldiers of the NATO mission, KFOR. There were also several reports of attacks with hand grenades and other means in that area.
