The Kosovo government has declared the "Civil Defense" and "Northern Brigade" organizations that operate in the north of the country as terrorists. 

Prime Minister Albin Kurti emphasized in Thursday's meeting that these organizations pose a serious and direct threat to the security and constitutional order of Kosovo.

"Based on the evaluations of the security institutions in the Republic of Kosovo, the illegal formations 'Civil Defense' and its component 'Northern Brigade' represent a serious and direct threat to the security and constitutional order of Kosovo," Kurti emphasized at the Government meeting . .

The Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has said that they are working to identify and react against threats to the constitutional order and security of Kosovo.

He said that in this regard, terrorism and violent extremism remain one of the main concerns that have threatened Kosovo.

"Within the relevant mandates, the relevant institutions have identified several terrorist groups that are carrying out direct terrorist actions against Kosovo. These groups have been tolerated over the years. For more than 2 years, our legal decisions have been challenged with barricades, armed attacks on members of the Police, attacks on state facilities, attacks on political opponents, attacks on journalists and the like. The MIA is engaged in identifying these persons who have committed criminal acts", he said.

This Government proposal was opposed by the Minister for Communities and Returns, Nenad Rashič. He asked the Minister of the Interior, Xelal Sveçla, to reconsider the proposal and not to "take hasty decisions". He was the only vote against.
