The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge, one of China's most impressive engineering projects, has successfully passed a critical durability test just weeks before its opening.

The massive suspension bridge, which stretches 625 meters over a gorge on the Beipan River in Guizhou province, is the highest in the world. Its total length is more than 2.8 km.

Construction began in January 2022 and is expected to open to traffic at the end of September.

The bridge was built with the aim of improving road connections in inaccessible areas, facilitating trade and revitalizing the province by attracting tourists. In this context, the creation of a large center for extreme sports at the foot of the valley is also planned.

According to the BBC, the bridge's strength test, which is part of the final phase of checks before it is opened to traffic, lasted five days.

Among other things, it involved placing 96 trucks at specific points on the bridge, with the aim of confirming the structural integrity of the project.
