China and the US are in a "space race" for the moon

The head of NASA is worried that China could claim the moon as its territory and stop the US from flying to it again.

"It is a fact, we are in a space race", said in an interview the current administrator of NASA, Bill Nelson reports "Metro". "It's true that we better be vigilant that China doesn't land on the moon under the pretext of scientific research. It's not impossible for them to say 'get out of here, it's our territory,'" concluded Nelson.

Nelson, who was appointed to head the space agency in 2021 by US President Joe Biden, said he and others are concerned about China's plans to explore the moon in 2023.

Its presence in space has grown significantly and in 2019, it was the first country to go to the dark side of the celestial body with the Chang'e 4 probe.
