"Russia will not give up", Stoltenberg: NATO must increase the

NATO must increase its weapons production as the war in Ukraine drags on and Kiev's need for military material grows, Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said in an interview broadcast Sunday.

"For example for artillery, we need a large amount of ammunition and we need spare parts," the head of the military alliance told the BBC.

"We need to increase production and this is exactly what the allies are doing," he said.

Maintaining the weapons systems already delivered to Ukraine is at least as important as the debate over supplying more weapons, Stoltenberg said.

According to him, NATO should also be prepared to support Ukraine in the long term.

"What we have seen is that Russia shows no signs of giving up on its overall goal of taking control of Ukraine. Ukrainian forces had the momentum for several months, but we also know that Russia has mobilized many more forces, many of them are now being trained," he added.

Stoltenberg said that this behavior of Russia is showing that it is ready to continue the war that it started on February 24, 2022.

"It is likely that this war will also end at the negotiating table, but decisive for the outcome of such talks is Ukraine's strength on the battlefield, he said, while stressing that it is up to the leadership in Kiev to decide on what terms sat at the negotiating table.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian officials on Monday said Russia launched multiple drones overnight to attack parts of Ukraine and dozens were shot down.

The attacks come after a series of attacks over the weekend that killed three civilians on New Year's Eve
