President Vladimir Putin said this Wednesday that Russia will cut off oil and gas supplies to the West if price ceilings are imposed.

He said that Europe will freeze during the winter like a "wolf's tail", referring to a famous Russian fairy tale.

Putin spoke during an economic forum in the port city of Vladivostok. He said that Europe's calls for a ceiling price for gas are nonsense and would lead to even greater price increases and economic problems throughout Europe.

Putin said that there is nothing unusual in this as, according to him, it is a policy used for decades.

"Western countries are trying to preserve the old world order, which is useful only for them. They're trying to force everyone to live by the proverbial rules they've made up, which they break regularly and change frequently, according to their immediate needs.”

Putin further stated that Russia is emerging from the conflict in Ukraine as a winner, not a loser, because it was embarking on a new sovereign path that would restore its global influence.

In an attempt to underline Russia's tilt towards Asia, Putin, speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in the Russian Pacific city of Vladivostok, said the West was failing with sanctions, while Asia was the future, Reuters writes.

"We haven't lost anything and we won't lose anything. Everything that is unnecessary, harmful and everything that prevents us from moving forward will be rejected", he emphasized.

Putin warned that the quality of life for Europeans was being sacrificed because of the sanctions, while the poorest countries were facing a food crisis.
