The drug cartel shoots down the helicopter of the Colombian forces, 8 officers

A Colombian National Police helicopter was attacked on Thursday in the department of Antioquia, leaving eight officers dead and several others injured.

The news was confirmed by President Gustavo Petro, who blamed the powerful criminal group Clan del Golfo for the attack.

According to the president, the helicopter was transporting personnel whose mission was to eradicate head crops in the Amalfi area, when it was hit. "We have the sad news of eight policemen killed and eight injured in the helicopter that had the mission of transporting personnel for the eradication of head plants," Petro wrote on the X platform.

The governor of Antioquia, Andrés Julián Rendón, stated that the helicopter was supporting operations for the manual eradication of illegal crops, when it was allegedly attacked with a drone. He added that two uniformed officers were injured.

The authorities warned that both the Clan del Golfo and dissidents of the former Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) operate in this area, making the situation even more dangerous.
