Through a message on social networks, the US Ambassador to Pristina, Jeff Hovenier, made it clear that Washington expects kosovo and Serbia to fully implement the agreement towards normalization of relations in 2024, and here he conveyed a message to Belgrade's ears: The dialogue must be concluded with mutual recognition between the two countries.
"In 2024, we hope to see real progress, including Serbia taking important steps to fulfill all its obligations under this agreement, as well as Kosovo also fulfilling its obligations, including moving towards the establishment of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities. Finally, this normalization process is concluded by mutual recognition between Kosovo and Serbia, as both countries seek to fulfil their path towards the EU. The implementation of the Basic Agreement and the Implementation Annex represents a major step towards that future," Hovenier said.
Kosovo and Serbia reached the Basic Agreement in Brussels on 27 February, and then in Ohrid also recissed with the Annex of its implementation, which, however, has not yet begun.
The 11-article agreement provides among other things for a level of self-management for the Serb community in Kosovo and mutual recognition of state symbols, while requiring Pristina and Belgrade to also bring all previous dialogue agreements into place.
