Interpol refuses to put Dodik on international wanted list

Interpol has rejected a Bosnian court's request to issue an international arrest warrant for Milorad Dodik, the Bosnian Serb separatist leader, who is accused of attacking the constitutional order.

Bosnia's state court confirmed to Reuters that the request for an international arrest warrant had not entered into force, but did not provide details on the reasons for Interpol's decision.

The development deepens the crisis between Dodik and the West, as he enjoys support from Russia and Serbia but faces opposition from the US and the EU. The dispute is seen as one of the biggest threats to stability in the Balkans since the 1990s.

Dodik, the president of the Bosnian Serb Republic, was sentenced in February 2025 to one year in prison and a six-year ban from holding political office for defying the decisions of the international envoy to Bosnia. After an international arrest warrant was sought for him and an aide, he traveled to Serbia, Israel, and Russia to garner political support.

Dodik welcomed Interpol's decision, calling it proof that the arrest warrant was political. On Wednesday, he returned to Bosnia, continuing his rhetoric for the secession of Republika Srpska from Bosnia.

The legal and political clash remains open, as Bosnian authorities continue efforts to pursue Dodik's case.
