U.S. intelligence: Russian offensive in Ukraine has stalled

The Russians are unable to advance in Ukraine on all fronts where they have launched the offensive and troops have not moved further towardKiev since last week, a senior U.S. defense official has said.

The Russians have fired more than 1100 missiles, but could face some "inventory issues," the official said. Some missiles have failed to launch, some have failed to explode and all of these are costs.

The United States is unable to confirm, or dismiss Russia's claim that it used a hypersonic missile, adding that it was not clear why the missile would be necessary, but that the Russians may have lacked precision missiles, or wanted to send a message.

The official said there had been an increase in sea activity in the Black Sea, which was believed to include several grenades around the port of Odessa. But that doesn't mean an attack in the city was imminent, the official said.
