Incident in Le Pen campaign, candidate: Macron an authoritarian

France's two rivals for the presidency have exchanged charges after a woman was abused after protesting against far-right candidate Marine Le Pen's ties to Russia's Vladimir Putin.

The protester crawled across the floor after she held a heart-shaped sign showing Ms Le Pen meeting with the Russian leader in 2017.

Responding to critics, Le Pen said people should be outraged that election press conferences could be disrupted.

The vote will be held on April 24.

Marine Le Pen, the leader of the 'National Manifestation', came second behind Emmanuel Macron in the first round, held last Sunday, but polls say she is just a few points behind the current president in the runoff race.

Macron has accused his rival of having "authoritarian" views, dismissing the more moderate image she has held during the presidential campaign. He has previously condemned her policies as racist.

Le Pen said Thursday that France had never had a president display as authoritarianism as Macron, because of his treatment of yellow-clad protesters. She went on to say that if she becomes president there could be a referendum on the return of the death penalty.
