The Director of the Kosovo Police, Samedin Mehmeti, has resigned from his post, after the serious incident where an 11-year-old minor girl was allegedly raped by 5 people in Pristina.

The news was announced by the Minister of the Interior, Sveçla, who confirms that among the reasons for the resignation is that of professional conscience for this very serious case.

The authorities in Kosovo have arrested 5 people for the rape of the minor girl. Four of them will be kept in custody for a month, while the fifth person is being interrogated.

The incident, which allegedly happened on Saturday in a city park, was reported by the victim's family.

The event prompted the reaction of institutions and organizations for the protection of human rights, which raised the alarm about the high number of rapes and the low level of punishment.

Groups of citizens and representatives of civil society held a protest on Tuesday and have warned of protests for Wednesday demanding punishment for the perpetrators and the legalization of the use of self-defense tools by women and girls.
