Hamas warns attack in another Israeli city: Residents leave

Hamas has specifically threatened to attack the Israeli city of Ashkelon in response to Israel's attacks on Gaza.

In a Telegram post, Hamas said residents of the town, in the northern Gaza Strip, have until 5pm local time (3pm BST) to leave.

Foreign media reports that more than 4,500 rockets have already been fired from Gaza into Israel since Saturday, the Israeli military says.

Meanwhile, several rockets have been launched towards Israel from southern Lebanon, Reuters reports, citing three security sources. A security source said the bombing was carried out by Palestinian factions.

The shells were hitting the southern area from which the rockets were launched. It is the third consecutive day of violence along the Lebanon-Israel border, with yesterday the deadliest since the 2006 war.

Six people were killed, three members of Hezbollah, an Israeli officer and two Palestinian militants.
