The toll from the terrorist car attack at the Christmas market in the city of Magdeburg in Germany is increasing.
According to German media reports, at least 11 people have died and over 80 others have been injured, many of them in serious condition.
The perpetrator, an elderly man whose identity is unknown, was seen being arrested by police.
He drove the car through the city's historic market, making zig-zag maneuvers, aiming to crush as many people as possible. According to witnesses, he got out of the car after trying to turn it around again to hit more people, but failed.
According to eyewitnesses, the BMW apparently drove straight into the crowd heading towards the city hall. People fled in panic. "As far as I know, a car drove into the Christmas market visitors, but I can't say from which direction or how far away," explained city spokesman Michael Reif.
The car is believed to have traveled for 400 meters, hitting citizens, until it stopped.
