Camorra boss executed in Naples, his body found inside car

A gun attack has shaken the Pimonte area, in the province of Naples, bringing old conflicts between Camorra clans back into focus.

Raffaele Afeltra, 69, known as a historical figure of the Camorra and part of the Afeltra-Di Martino faction of Piedmont, has been shot dead.

Afeltra was found without signs of life inside his car, near a plot of land in the mountainous area of Monti Lattari.

According to the preliminary reconstruction of the incident, the victim was allegedly attacked by unidentified individuals, who shot him several times with a 12-gauge shotgun. The shots were fatal for the 69-year-old.

Investigations continue to accurately determine the dynamics of the assassination and the perpetrators, while the motive behind the murder is also being investigated.

He had been free for three years.

The incident is suspected to have occurred on land owned by Afeltra, in the Monti Lattari area.

Known by the nickname "O' Burraccione", Afeltra was at large after a period of imprisonment. In 2019, he surrendered to Italian authorities after a brief period on the run and subsequently served a final sentence for extortion in the context of Camorra activity.

He had been at large again for about three years.

Investigators are now analyzing his criminal past, contacts and possible conflicts with rival groups, in an attempt to solve the murder and understand whether the assassination is related to old clashes between clans.
