Greece is completely and without any reservations in favor of Serbia's membership in the European Union, while it has conditioned Albania.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis has concretized his support for Serbia with actions, sending a letter to European leaders, in which he considers Serbia to be "the cornerstone of stability in the region."

Mitsotakis said he had sent a letter to European leaders requesting the opening of another chapter in membership negotiations for Serbia.

"I consider it absolutely essential to accelerate its path towards the European Union. It is the largest country in the Western Balkans, a cornerstone of stability in the region, and I feel that the time has come to send a message to Serbia and its people that we understand what we are saying: we want Serbia to become a member of the European family," said Micotakis.

It is worth noting that in the geopolitical reality created after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, many EU countries see Serbia as distant from the European Union, not only because of its failure to align with them on sanctions against Russia, but also for its serious internal problems and its lack of will to normalize relations with Kosovo.

On the other hand, the Greek Prime Minister stated Greece's condition towards Albania's membership in the EU.

"Issues related to the protection of the Greek national minority, ensuring their property rights and the right to self-identification are not bilateral issues. They are now issues related to Albania's relations with the European Union," Mitsotakis said.

Albania aims to become a member of the European Union by 2030, leaving behind other candidate countries in the region that were considered much earlier in negotiations with the bloc. This has apparently led Greece to engage in a denunciation campaign against Albania, which at least so far remains only in the context of declarations.
