Following U.S. President Joe Biden's decision to drop out of the presidential race, Vice President Kamala Harris has emerged as the party's favorite to replace him.
And now the "race" process has begun as to who Harris' nominee for vice-president will be, should she win the race for the White House.
A senior administration official told ABC News that Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Arizona Senator Mark Kelly are the leading candidates to be "Harris' replacements."
The two men hail from key 2024 battleground states and have experience in defeating Trump-backed candidates.
Shapiro, 51, was Pennsylvania's attorney general before being elected governor in 2022, after defeating Republican Doug Mastriano.
Kelly, a 60-year-old former astronaut and Navy captain, married to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, won his Senate seat in 2022. He defeated Republican challenger Blake Masters.
However, there are other potential candidates, including Michigan's governor, Gretchen Whitmer, North Carolina governor, Roy Cooper, New Jersey Governor, Phil Murphy, Kentucky Governor, Andy Beshear, Maryland Governor, Wes Moore and Illinois Governor, J. B. Pritzker.
