The human dramas are beginning to unfold as the waters recede from the floods in Valencia and the figures of 95 dead so far from storm DANA are known.
One such drama is that of the family of Antonio Tarajona and Lourdes Maria Garcia, who were trapped in the Paiporta area together with their three-month-old daughter, Angelina.
At one point Antonio, Lourdes and little Angelina climbed onto the roof of their car.
The waters, however, were swift and took Antonio away, leaving Lourdes and Angelina behind.
According to a friend of the 34-year-old, Lourdes called her at 8.50pm on Wednesday night: "She told me she was going to try to hold on as long as possible and asked me to look after her other two children."
Lourdes' friend walked to the 34-year-old's house, a distance of six kilometers, to pick up her 10-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son. A few hours later came the unpleasant news. As reported by a friend of Lourdes, both the 34-year-old woman and her baby were found dead.
Antonio, who was found and rescued, was taken with an injured knee to a sports center in Valencia that is used as a reception center for those affected.
According to the family friend, Antonio described how when he was swept away by the waters, he managed to grab onto a piece of iron and was eventually found by rescuers.
Originally from Venezuela, Lourdes had been living in Valencia for the past 5 years.
