The Justice Department has filed charges against a member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard paramilitary group for plotting to assassinate Donald Trump ahead of Tuesday's presidential election, the Associated Press reports.
During the campaign before his election victory, Trump survived two assassination attempts, but authorities do not believe either was linked to Iran, a longtime enemy of the United States.
According to the AP, the indictment unsealed in a federal court in Manhattan says an unnamed official of the guard, which is officially known as the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, instructed a contact in September to create a plan to spy on and kill Trump.
