The ceasefire between Hamas and Israel has ended, with the latter launching attacks in the early hours of Tuesday on Gaza.
The Gaza Health Ministry has announced that 220 people have died as a result of the attacks.
One of those killed was Mahmoud Abu Wafah, Hamas's top security official in Gaza. But many civilians, including children, have lost their lives.
This is the largest wave of airstrikes in Gaza since the ceasefire began on January 19.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said they had targeted what they called "terrorist targets" belonging to Hamas.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz ordered the strikes on Tuesday morning, according to a statement from the prime minister's office.
"This follows Hamas' repeated refusal to release our hostages, as well as its rejection of all proposals it has received from US presidential envoy Steve Witkoff and the mediators. Israel, from now on, will act against Hamas with increasing military power. The plan for the attacks was presented by the IDF over the weekend and approved by the political leadership," he said.
Israel's UN ambassador, Danny Danon, warned Hamas to release all hostages, saying "we will show no mercy to our enemies."
Hamas has accused Israel of treason for overturning the ceasefire agreement. The group also says Israel is exposing the remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza to an "unknown fate."
But Hamas has not yet declared that it is resuming the war, instead calling on mediators and the United Nations to intervene.
An Israeli official told CBS that the Israeli government notified the White House before launching the attacks.
