Dacic: Kosovo has the votes to join the Council of Europe

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Serbia, Ivica Dacic, has said that Kosovo has a sufficient number of votes to join the Council of Europe, given the number of countries that have recognized its independence.

According to him, Kosovo would not have the right to be a member of the Council of Europe, since it has not yet become a member of the UN.

"When it comes to the countries that have recognized Kosovo, we are in the worst position in Europe", said Dacic.

Meanwhile, when it comes to the possible entry of Kosovo into the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), he emphasizes that the case is the same and is decided by consensus. Dacic emphasized that Iceland as the chairperson is under great pressure, primarily from Germany, as well as Ireland, to introduce the issue of Kosovo's admission into the procedure.

"However, as Iceland hosts a summit of EC member states in April, the question is whether it is in their interest for that meeting to take place with disagreement," he said.

Asked if Serbia could make a more drastic move and withdraw from that body, he added that it is necessary to assess what Serbia's interests are and that Belgrade will not agree with Kosovo's admission to the Council of Europe.
