Britain passes three new laws against Russian oligarchs

Great Britain has proclaimed new laws aimed at "preventing russian oligarchs' access to the UK's technical aviation and naval services."

The UK Foreign Office said the legislation would prohibit the maintenance of aircraft, or ships belonging to sanctioned Russian oligarchs or their businesses.

The department said the new powers were immediately used to sanction Russian businessmen Eugene Shvidler and Oleg Tinkov.

Meanwhile, financial, trade and transport sanctions imposed on Crimea have expanded to the Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

UK Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said: "There is no doubt that Putin and his elite have been surprised by the strength of our sanctions. We will continue to increase pressure as long as Russian troops are in Ukraine, targeting not only oligarchs' businesses, but also their assets and international lifestyle."
