The United Kingdom and France will send troops to Ukraine "in the event of a peace deal" with Russia, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said after talks in Paris.
Starmer says a "declaration of intent", signed in Paris, "pave the way for a legal framework under which British, French and partner forces can operate on Ukrainian soil".
"It is important that we are starting the year like this - European and American allies, shoulder to shoulder with Ukrainian President Zelensky, standing for peace."
"And we are closer to this goal than ever. But of course, the hardest roads are still ahead."
He stressed that "we are here today to continue to take this effort forward and we had a very constructive meeting, which built on the excellent progress made in the negotiations over the past days and weeks."
"The goal of the coalition of the willing is to help achieve a peace that can last and work with the US to ensure Ukraine's security for the long term."
