American soldier stabbed in Italy, accompanied by an Albanian woman

A US soldier serving at the military base in Aviano, Italy, is recovering after a knife attack that occurred last week in the city of Conegliano.

The soldier, who was not identified, has been described by some Italian media as a 28-year-old male, Stripes.com reports.

He was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and is now recovering at home, according to Capt. Jennifer French, spokeswoman for the 173rd Airmobile Brigade. U.S. military authorities are working with Italian investigators to clarify the incident. The soldier was off-duty at the time of the attack.

The incident occurred in the early hours of the morning of December 28 outside a private club in Conegliano. He was accompanied by a 37-year-old Albanian woman when he was confronted by a group of people who knew the woman.

According to reports, a physical altercation broke out, and both the American soldier and the woman were injured during the incident. The soldier was initially thought to be in critical condition, but he was quickly transported to the hospital for treatment, Stripes.com reports.

Police identified a suspect, analyzing camera footage and the car's license plate, but the person remains unidentified and at large. Conegliano is a city of about 35,000 people, about 29 kilometers southwest of Aviano, where several American soldiers stationed there also live.

The incident has raised concerns about the safety of American soldiers in the area and is being investigated by local and military authorities. The soldier is recovering and authorities are still investigating to apprehend the suspect and understand the motives for the incident.
