Bill Clinton testifies about his relationship with Epstein: I did nothing wrong

Former United States President Bill Clinton told the Congressional Oversight Committee that he " saw nothing and did nothing wrong" regarding his relationship with the late financier Jeffrey Epstein, during his opening statement to US lawmakers.

"You'll often hear me say I don't remember. But I'm not going to say something I'm not sure about. All of this happened a long time ago. And I'm bound by my oath not to speculate or guess," Clinton said.

"It doesn't help matters that I'm playing the detective role 24 years later ," the former US President added.

He concludes his statement by saying, "Since I am under oath, I will not falsely state that I am looking forward to your questions. But I am willing to answer them to the best of my ability."

Clinton stressed that, if she had known about Epstein's crimes, she would have reported him to the authorities herself.

He also criticized the investigative committee for calling his wife, Hillary Clinton, to testify, arguing that she had "nothing to do" with Epstein.

In testimony that lasted about six hours, Hillary Clinton said she had “no idea” about Epstein’s criminal activities and called the hearing “partisan political theater.” Republicans, on the other hand, have announced that they plan to release video of her testimony on Friday or Saturday.

"You forced me to testify, knowing that I had no information that could help your investigation, only to distract attention from President Trump's actions and cover them up, despite legitimate demands for answers," Hillary Clinton said.

“If this Committee were serious about uncovering the truth about Epstein’s crimes, it would directly question the current president under oath about the tens of thousands of times his name appears in the Epstein files .” Clinton added that those who mention the “most outrageous party” on Epstein’s island should also be investigated, a reference to a message from Elon Musk.

Republicans asked her about Epstein's funding of Bill Clinton's foundation, but she said she had not been involved, as she was a senator at the time. They also demanded an explanation for Ghislaine Maxwell's presence at their daughter Chelsea's wedding, but she had been invited by another guest.

The hearing was interrupted when Rep. Lauren Boebert shared a photo of Hillary Clinton with right-wing political commentator Benny Johnson, who published it. Her lawyers protested, saying it was absurd to deny a public hearing while the images were being secretly distributed.

The truth was obvious from the beginning: The Clintons are the favorite target of Republicans, especially the extremists of Maga, convinced that they will find evidence against them in the secret files.

But in fact, Trump's name appears much more frequently in the released documents. Today it is Bill Clinton's turn, who is expected to give more detailed explanations about his professional contacts with Epstein. Meanwhile, the question remains unanswered why the same questions are not being addressed to President Trump.
