British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has reacted to the tragic bus accident with about 70 students in Somerset, where so far it has been reported that one of them has died, while dozens of others have been injured.

"There are not enough words to express the pain of losing a child's life," Starmer said in a public statement.

He added that his thoughts are with the victim's parents, family, friends and all those affected by the tragic event.

Starmer also thanked the emergency services for their quick response and dedication at the scene, stressing that he is in constant contact with the situation.

According to the BBC, it is learned that there were 60 to 70 people on the bus, most of whom were students returning from a field trip.

From the accident, 19 people were transported by ambulance to hospitals, while two others were evacuated by helicopter due to their serious condition. Two children are in critical condition.

According to Devon and Somerset Fire Service, the bus left a rural road in a remote area and slid about 6 metres down a slope.

"We were involved in a major incident where a bus had overturned and slid about 20 feet down a slope ," said Fire Chief Gavin Ellis.

A local resident, witness to the event, described the scene as "shocking".

"The bus fell down the slopes. The area is very steep and the bus was big. It was a terrible sight... I feel very sorry for all the children who were on board," he told the BBC.

Rescue and security operations in the area are still ongoing, while authorities are investigating the causes of the serious accident.
