President Donald Trump says Coca-Cola has agreed to use real sugar extracted from sugar cane in the drinks it sells in the US.
Coca-Cola currently uses corn syrup in its products in America, but Trump's Health Secretary, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., has expressed concern about the impact on consumers' health from this ingredient.
“I have spoken with Coca-Cola about using real cane sugar in Coca-Cola in the United States, and they have agreed to do so,” Trump wrote on social media. “I want to thank everyone in leadership positions at Coca-Cola.”
Without directly confirming the recipe change, a Coca-Cola spokesperson said they "appreciate President Trump's enthusiasm" and that "more details about our innovative new products will be shared soon."
Trump himself said Wednesday in a post on Truth Social: "This will be a very good move on their part - You'll see. It's just better!"
The BBC writes that Coca-Cola sold in the US is usually sweetened with corn syrup, but Coca-Cola sold in other countries such as Mexico, Britain and Australia usually uses sugar extracted from cane.
