President Donald Trump has been diagnosed with chronic venous insufficiency, a common health condition that affects blood circulation in the legs, the White House announced Thursday.

According to an official statement read by press secretary Caroline Leavitt, Trump, 79, underwent a full examination by the White House Medical Unit after noticing mild swelling in his lower extremities.

The president's physician, Captain Sean Barbabella, explained in a note that " a Doppler ultrasound performed on the leg revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a common condition in people over 70 years of age, which occurs when the valves in the veins of the legs do not close properly and allow blood to pool ."

However, there is no need to worry.

"No deep vein thrombosis or arterial problems were found. Laboratory tests and echocardiograms were normal, with no signs of heart, kidney, or systemic disease," Leavitt said.

Venous insufficiency is a condition that affects about 150,000 people each year in the U.S. alone, and symptoms include swelling, pain, skin changes, or varicose veins. It is usually managed with medical treatment or specialized procedures, depending on the stage of the condition.

Health experts have confirmed that this is a normal development for a person of the former president's age and weight.

"There's no cause for alarm. This is something that comes with age, especially for someone who is in the overweight or obese category," said Dr. Jeremy Faust of Harvard Medical School.

Meanwhile, bruises were also noticed on Trump's right hand, which Leavitt said are the result of "frequent handshakes" and the use of aspirin as part of a preventive regimen for heart disease.

Despite the diagnosis, Trump remains in good health and is not experiencing any concerns, the White House announced.

If re-elected president in November, Trump will become the oldest head of state in US history to serve a second presidential term.
