Israel and Hamas have agreed to a deal that will halt fighting in Gaza and lead to the phased release of Palestinian hostages and prisoners, a source briefed on the talks told CNN.

The United States, Qatar and Egypt will soon issue a joint statement regarding the ceasefire agreement, the Times of Israel reported, citing a senior Arab diplomat familiar with the negotiations.

Afterwards, Qatar's Prime Minister, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, will hold a conference in Doha to provide details about the agreement.

Under the agreement, which has not yet been officially announced, Hamas is expected to release 33 hostages captured by Israel during the attacks of October 7, 2023.

In exchange, Israel will release hundreds of Palestinian prisoners.

The agreement would provide the first pause from the war for the people of Gaza in more than a year, and only the second since the start of the Israeli bombardment.

Once confirmed, the deal is expected to allow Palestinian civilians to return to northern Gaza and there will be a massive influx of humanitarian aid into the Strip, where residents have long faced dire humanitarian conditions.

Meanwhile, this agreement has also been confirmed by US President-elect Donald Trump, who said on the social network 'Truth' that the Hamas hostages will be released very soon.

“This epic ceasefire agreement was made possible by our historic victory in November, signaling to the world that my administration would seek peace and negotiate agreements to ensure the safety of all Americans and our allies,” Donald Trump wrote in Truth, commenting on the Gaza agreement. “We have accomplished so much without even being in the White House. Imagine how many wonderful things will happen when I return to the White House and my entire administration is confirmed to secure more victories for the United States,” Trump added.
