Former First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon has been arrested in connection with an investigation into the funding of the Scottish National Party (SNP).

The police have confirmed that the 52-year-old woman was accompanied and is being interrogated on this incident. On April 5, a search was carried out at Sturgeon's home, as well as at party headquarters.

She was accompanied by her husband Peter Murrell, former executive director of the SNP, who was later released.

Sturgeon has been a member of the Scottish Parliament since 1999 and became deputy leader of the SNP in 2004.

She has been Prime Minister since November 2014, when she took over from Alex Salmond after losing the independence referendum.
