From a rally in Georgia, former US President Donald Trump declared that his indictment is a politically motivated campaign. Trump accused the prosecutors of having no evidence and all this is being done to prevent him from being re-elected as President in 2024.

"Ridiculous and baseless accusations against me by the Department of Justice. You are looking at Joe Biden. Biden is trying to imprison his main political opponent, an opponent who is overwhelming him in the polls, just like they do in Stalinist Russia or Communist China.”

His comments came after prosecutors filed a 37-count indictment against him alleging former President Donald Trump committed violations in the way he handled classified documents that included information about the secret US nuclear program.

Trump compared the investigation opened against him to that of US President Joe Biden when classified documents were found.

"Biden. He has so many classified documents, they don't know what to do and he's trying to stop them from investigating him. This is the obstacle. But we didn't make any obstacles. This is a sick nest of people that needs to be cleaned out immediately. 

The former US president is also accused of sharing classified information with unauthorized people as well as trying to prevent government investigators from obtaining the materials. Trump has declared that he will continue to run for President even if he is convicted.

If convicted, former President Trump could serve decades in prison, but legal analysts say a federal judge has wide discretion and could impose a much lighter sentence, especially if Trump reaches a plea deal with prosecutors out of court. in exchange for a guilty plea.
