Next year's presidential election in the USA seems to be accompanied by a big debate. However, there are several names made public as main contenders to take the role of Head of State.
A very strange choice is Arnold Schwarzenegger! The former governor of California has recently stated that it would be fantastic if he were given the opportunity to run.
In an interview for CNN, the 75-year-old says that if he enters the election, he is convinced of victory.
"Think about it, who could be the person everyone agrees on?! Ok, they can say that I'm old, but what does it matter. It is important who is voted. When I once ran for governor, I was clear that people were looking for a new alternative, different from the left or the right. Someone who unites the nation. There are many things that need to be done. If people say YES, we can do it", he said.
Unfortunately for Arnie, this is legally impossible because the Constitution states that the President must be an American citizen born in America and originally from that country. Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger is of Austrian origin and became a naturalized American in 1983.
He served as Governor of California from 2003 to 2011, making him the state's second foreign-born governor after Irish-born John G. Downey in 1862.
In 2004 he launched the "Change for Arnold" campaign, promoting the proposed Equal Opportunity to Government Amendment, which would see this provision of the Constitution removed.
But after the proposal went to Congress, everything stopped there. It seems almost impossible at this point for the amendment to go back to the courts, but you never know!
