United States President Donald Trump has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize for his "extraordinary and historic" role in brokering a ceasefire between Israel and Iran.
According to Fox News, the proposal was made by US House of Representatives representative Buddy Carter, who in a letter to the Nobel Committee praised Trump's leadership in ending what was called the "12-Day War."
According to Carter, Trump's intervention helped stop the escalation of violence and avoid a possible nuclear war, calling it a true act of international diplomacy.
The ceasefire, announced by Trump himself, came into effect after a dramatic chain of events that included an Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities, followed by fierce missile exchanges and air strikes by the US. Iran responded with attacks on a US base in Qatar, but according to reports, advance warning had been given and there were no casualties.
Carter stressed that "President Trump's decisive actions were essential in achieving a rapid agreement that many considered impossible," adding that his efforts "represent the ideals that the Nobel Peace Prize is intended to honor: the pursuit of peace, the prevention of war, and the advancement of international harmony."
This is not the first time Trump has been nominated for this prestigious award. Earlier this year, he was also nominated for his global influence after winning the 2024 presidential election. Meanwhile, according to the official Nobel website, a total of 338 nominations have been submitted for the 2025 Peace Prize.
However, Trump's nomination has sparked mixed reactions internationally. A Ukrainian lawmaker who had previously nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize for his peace efforts in Ukraine has officially withdrawn the nomination, saying he has lost faith in his ability to stop the war in Eastern Europe.
Also, in Pakistan, where some officials had supported Trump's nomination for intervention in the India-Pakistan crisis, strong voices have been raised against it, especially after the American attacks on Iran.
