Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz said he had instructed the Israeli military to "respond forcefully to Iran's violation of the ceasefire with high-intensity strikes against regime targets in the heart of Tehran."
He said this was due to "Iran's flagrant violation of the ceasefire declared by the President of the United States, through the launch of missiles towards Israel and in accordance with the Israeli government's policy of responding forcefully to any violation."
Proposed Iran-Israel ceasefire
Trump posted a post on his Truth Social platform around 6pm local time on Monday in Washington DC (22:00 GMT), stating that the ceasefire would begin to take effect "approximately 6 hours from now".
This six-hour period, which expired at 04:00 GMT (7:00 AM in Israel, 7:30 AM in Tehran), was intended to allow Iran and Israel to calm down and complete their "final missions."
Trump said Iran would initiate the ceasefire first (04:00 GMT Tuesday).
Israel will follow 12 hours later at 7:00 p.m. local time (4:00 p.m. GMT).
Israel must adhere to the ceasefire for 12 hours, after which the ceasefire will be considered fully effective.
Trump said this timeline would mark the official end of what he called the "Twelve Day War" between Israel and Iran.
