The Greek party PASOK decided on Sunday to once again leave the political leadership in the hands of Nikos Androulakis.

The 45-year-old received 59.9 percent of the votes cast by over 213,000 party members, followed by his rival, the mayor of Athens, Haris Doukas, with 40.1 percent.

"Today there are no winners or losers. We have left the difficult times for PASOK behind and better times await us. I will do everything in my power to end the dominance of the New Democracy, as soon as possible. Our party has the duty to restore hope and give a purpose to the Greek people, especially the young generation," promised Androulakis.

Among his political goals are the revitalization of the health system, the protection of employment rights and more affordable housing for all.

Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis congratulated his opponent and reportedly invited him for a meeting together.

The PASOK–Movement for Change political alliance was created in 2018 as a center-left grouping. In the European parliamentary elections of June 2024, the movement secured only 10 percent of the seats in the Greek parliament and 3 of the 21 MEP seats in Brussels.

Androulakis announced new elections after internal pressure for his removal.
