Protests in Tehran

Tensions are rising rapidly in the Middle East, with the risk of a major war, including a potential clash between the US, Israel and Iran, looming. Middle East Eye analysis shows that recent Israeli and US strategies, including military buildup and targeting Iranian leaders, could push the region into a new major crisis.

A few days after US President Donald Trump's visit to Davos and the promotion of the so-called "Board of Peace", the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier group was deployed near Iran.

F-15E (American fighter bomber) and B-52 (American strategic bomber) have been sent to Jordan and Qatar respectively, while Thaad (American ballistic missile defense system) is expected to arrive soon to protect American ground bases.

Israeli media also report on logistical and intelligence support from Jordan, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom in the event of an attack.

However, the UAE has publicly stated that it will not allow its airspace or territory to be used against Iran, a statement that Iranian officials see as insufficient.

The latest conflict between the US, Israel and Iran culminated in June last year, when Israeli-American attacks lasted 12 days, hitting military commanders, nuclear scientists and uranium bunkers.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sought regime change and even planned to eliminate Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The United States, on the other hand, was more cautious. But now, according to the analysis, American hesitation seems to have subsided and Khamenei could be the main target of a future operation.

Inside Iran, large protests against the regime and the rising cost of living have resulted in hundreds, possibly thousands, of casualties, according to various sources.

The revolt began with merchants in Tehran and spread to other cities, reflecting the population's anger over decades of sanctions, corruption, and state mismanagement. However, Western and Israeli intelligence agencies may have fueled the tensions, exploiting domestic anger for political purposes.

The policy of “maximum pressure” on Iran has damaged the country’s economy, hit the civilian population, and made Iran more vulnerable to external manipulation. This shows that the Israeli and US strategy is a combination of economic pressure and military threat.

The situation in the region is equally complicated. After Israel and the US failed to fragment Syria and establish control over Gaza or the occupied Palestinian territories, Netanyahu's next strategy seems to be aimed at Iran. However, any attack on Iran could lead to major regional destabilization: Iranian civilians could flee to Turkey and Saudi Arabia, threatening the security and stability of the entire region.

Middle East Eye's analysis emphasizes that Israel's struggles are not simply political, but are turning into a fight for regional survival.

While Netanyahu aims to impose influence, the reality shows that regional forces, including Iran, Turkey, and Saudi Arabia, are uniting to defend sovereignty and balance in the Middle East.
