Hamburg airport was closed today, authorities said, as police dealt with a serious incident. The father allegedly took the child hostage after a custody dispute.
The airport was closed to all take-offs and landings on Saturday evening after police were on the scene to deal with a man who drove through an airport barrier with a child.
The car with the 35-year-old man and the 4-year-old girl was parked near a plane, a police spokesman said. He had intended to board a "Turkish Airlines" plane.
The suspect's wife reported about the child being taken hostage.
"It is believed that a child custody battle is behind this case," the police statement said.
The police said that the suspect fired two shots in the air and threw Molotov cocktails.
Psychologists and police are negotiating with him. All flights at Hamburg airport have been cancelled. Meanwhile, today, the police reported that the same situation is continuing.
