A tragic accident happened on Monday morning (4/8) in Italy, on the A1 highway, between Arezzo and Florence, when a truck collided with vehicles stopped due to a traffic jam.

The violent clash killed three people and injured 15 others. According to Corriere della Sera, the accident happened shortly before 11:00 a.m. and traffic was stopped on both lanes of the highway. According to initial information, the truck did not have time to brake and hit other vehicles one after the other, including another truck, a car, a tour bus and an ambulance.

The ambulance was transporting a 75-year-old patient. The violent collision killed all three people who were in it: the patient, as well as the two nurses who were in the back of the vehicle.

A total of 15 people were injured in the clash. One is in critical condition at the Carezzi hospital in Florence, four have more serious injuries, while the rest have minor injuries.

Paolo Romaglioli, a lawyer from Arezzo, was an eyewitness. He said that he was miraculously saved, after he managed to brake. "The truck collided with another large vehicle and the ambulance was crushed. Then it was engulfed in flames, but some drivers managed to extinguish the fire before it spread," he said. The highway remained closed for several hours.
