With 76 votes for, 6 against and no abstentions, Afrim Gashi from the VLEN coalition has been elected Speaker of the Assembly of North Macedonia.

In North Macedonia today, the constitutive session of the eleventh composition of the Assembly, resulting from the regular parliamentary elections held on May 8, is being held.

Afrim Gashi was proposed for the post of Speaker of the Assembly by the coalition of Albanian parties VLEN, while he also has the support of VMRO-DPMNE, the winning party of the parliamentary elections.

Until Monday, Gashi was the chairman of the Alternative party, when he resigned after his nomination for the chairman of the Assembly.

According to the provisions in force, the Speaker of the Assembly cannot also be the chairman of a party, or the holder of other functions in any political subject.

Afrim Gashi was a deputy in the Assembly of North Macedonia in two mandates 2016-2020 and 2020-2024.
