The Delegation of the European Union to Albania has reacted to the developments surrounding the case of the former director of the State Intelligence Service, Vlora Hyseni, reconfirming its trust in SPAK and emphasizing that it closely follows issues related to the rule of law.
In a response to the Albanian Post, the EU Delegation avoided commenting on the specific issue, because it is under investigation.
"We do not comment on ongoing matters," the response said.
However, the Delegation emphasized that developments in the field of the rule of law, judicial reform and the fight against corruption and organized crime continue to be closely followed.
"We closely follow developments related to the rule of law, especially justice reform and the fight against organized crime and corruption, where Albania has made considerable progress," the response states.
The delegation also reaffirmed its support for the Special Prosecution Office.
"We have full confidence in the ability of the Special Structure against Corruption and Organized Crime (SPAK) to detect, investigate and prosecute corruption and organized crime."
The position is in line with that expressed on September 25 by the European Commission.
Spokesperson Guillaume Mercier previously stated that the Commission did not comment on specific issues under investigation, but was closely following developments related to the rule of law in Albania.
Even in that reaction, the European Commission expressed "full confidence" in SPAK's ability to detect, investigate and prosecute corruption and organized crime.
