No agreement has been reached among European Union member states on the temporary closure of Chapter 20 of the negotiations with Albania, despite discussions held yesterday in the COELA working group.

According to sources for Top News, the issue will return to the COELA table today, where representatives of member states will continue discussions on the EU's common position towards Albania.

Chapter 20 relates to “Entrepreneurship and Industrial Policy” and is part of Cluster 3, “Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth”. EU Council documents confirm that a compromise proposal has been presented for this chapter by the Council presidency, while the issue is still under consideration in COELA.

The lack of an agreement in COELA currently delays the process. If member states reach consensus, the file should then move to COREPER, before being formalized in an EU-Albania Intergovernmental Conference.

This situation comes after the necessary agreement was not reached in previous discussions and the issue was returned to the COELA agenda on October 6.

Albania is aiming for the provisional closure of Chapter 20, while an intergovernmental conference on October 13 was previously reported as the expected scenario. However, the issue's progress to this stage depends on the conclusion of discussions and the achievement of an agreement among member states.
