The Arbëresh Museum will be built in Vuno

In Vuno, Himara, one of the areas from where the exodus of the Arbëresh people once began, the Arbëresh Museum will soon be established, a project that aims to bring back to the homeland the memory, language and spirit of a community that has preserved its Albanian identity for more than five centuries away from its native lands.

Minister of Economy, Culture and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja inspected the space where the Arbëresh Museum will be built.

"This museum will not be just a building, but a living bridge between generations and shores, where the stories of our ancestors will come to life through exhibitions, memories and cultural dialogue," Gonxha said in a post on social media.

"This museum will connect the history of the oldest Albanian diaspora with today's generations, strengthening spiritual and cultural cooperation with Arbëresh communities in Italy," Gonxha emphasized.

Symbolically located in the heart of the historic center of Vunoi, near the churches of Saint Spyridon and Saint Michael, the project also envisages the restoration of these precious monuments.

"This restoration of the churches and the establishment of the museum will turn the area into a living mosaic ensemble where spiritual heritage is intertwined with contemporary museumization, the architectural revitalization of the neighborhood and its itineraries," said Gonxha.

Gonxhja noted that "this is a big step towards revitalizing Vunoi, strengthening Albanian cultural identity and enriching historical and cultural tourism beyond the beach season and the development of various educational and cultural programs, but also community engagement."

This museum, according to Minister Gonxha, is an invitation for everyone, locals, visitors and the diaspora, to feel part of a history that unites us and makes us proud.

The museum is planned to be built in the former 8-year school in Vuno, where a large number of Arbëresh people have centuries-old origins, whose families moved from this region in the 17th century.

The museum will also serve as an added tourist attraction in the village of Vuno.
