The Butrint Goddess has returned to the ancient city where it was discovered, after a journey that took it first to Rome and then to the National History Museum in Tirana.
The news was announced by the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports, Blendi Gonxhja, who said that the return of the statue is an important moment for Albanian cultural heritage.
According to the minister, visitors to Butrint will have the opportunity to see Dean up close, one of the most important works of the country's archaeological heritage.
"The return of Dea enriches the narrative of Butrint," said Gonxha, emphasizing its importance for European history, art, and heritage.
Butrint has registered over 200 thousand visitors this year and is consolidating its position as one of the main cultural tourism destinations in Albania.
The Minister thanked the teams that worked to return Dea to Butrint, as well as the Albanian-American Development Foundation (AADF) for their support in this project. The return of the statue is expected to be another point of interest for tourists and visitors who choose Butrint to learn about the history and archaeological wealth of Albania.
