A minor incident accompanied the arrival of Usha Vance, wife of US Vice President JD Vance, at Joint Base Andrews, before the departure of the family's visit to Alaska.
The second lady of the United States was carrying her nine-week-old son, Alec, in a baby carrier when she tripped while descending the steps of the helicopter that had brought her to the military base. Usha Vance managed to maintain her balance by holding onto the railing and avoided falling. The baby, fortunately, was not injured. What drew attention was the fact that several soldiers who were near the stairs did not react to help her, despite Usha Vance descending with her baby.
Moments later, JD Vance also disembarked from the same helicopter, carrying their four-year-old daughter, Mirabelle. The Vance family is traveling to Alaska as part of the vice president's visit, which is expected to support the electoral campaign of Republican Senator Dan Sullivan. Before leaving, JD Vance had also made a humorous comment about the family trip, saying that Usha and some of the children would accompany him and that they would take the baby with them on the approximately 7 and a half hour flight to Alaska.
Alec, the couple's fourth child, was born on July 19 at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Maryland. He is reported to be the first child born to a serving vice president since 1870.
US Second Lady Usha Vance nearly fell face-first while carrying her two-month-old baby in Alaska. What caught viewers' attention? The soldiers standing around her didn't even flinch. One moment. Zero reaction. https://t.co/chqyFp48BA
