A sudden decision by several institutions, central and local, is bringing about the closure of the Vlora Trade School after 121 years. The project for the vocational school campus, to be built in the city of Vlora, paves the way for the Uji i Ftohtë area, where this school operates, to become a resort.

The coveted property of many builders on top of the Cold Water hill has been constantly sought after by old and new owners, by those in power or even by oligarchs or people connected to crime. But, when several factors cooperate, business and politics, it brings about the destruction of a long-standing history.

Previously, the school was closed during World War II, by the Italian dictator Mussolini, during the time when Italy invaded Albania and turned the school into a military barracks. Now, after Mussolini, the school is being closed by the "Rama" government, where several local and central exponents have signed for this school!

The Centralized Purchasing Operator has announced the winner of the tender "new construction of the school and the department of the Pavarësia school Vlorë". The winners were BOE "ZEQILLARI" and "LTE CONSTRUCTION". The tender fund was 383 million lek, while the lowest offer was that of BOE "ARKONSTUDIO", "ALKO IMPEX" and "B93 II" worth 283 million lek. The winner offered 360 million lek, 77 million lek more than the lowest offer!

VoxNews analyzed the accompanying tender documents, where at the top of the architectural report it is written “reconstruction of the 'Pavarësia' vocational school and 'construction of the Vlora Trade School'”. But, if the 'Pavarësia' High School is in the city, the Trade School is in Uji i Ftohtë!

The document states that the "Pavarësia" school is located in the city of Vlora and has an area of ​​10 thousand square meters. The current capacity is 485 students, while the most interesting thing about this school is the creation of internship departments for each educational profile.

Meanwhile, the same document also mentions the Vlora Commercial School. “It was opened in Vlora on November 8, 1924, during the country's holiday period, the students sabotaged every measure to fascistize the school. With the creation of the CPSU, the revolutionary activity in the school took on an organized character. 229 male and female students took up arms to liberate the homeland. Under these circumstances, on May 22, 1943, the school was closed. The occupying forces turned it into a military barracks. 44 of its students fell martyrs, among them 4 heroes of the people. After the Liberation, the school was reopened in March 1945, and in 1947, the dormitory and evening branch were opened without interruption from work. For a short time, the school was located in Tirana, but then returned to Vlora. Its tradition is continued by the economic high school. "There is a collaboration with 120 businesses in the city and the south, mainly in tourism," the documents state.

But, after the Albanian Communist Party is echoed and praised, "with the creation of the AKP, revolutionary activity in the school took on an organized character," the government will demolish this school. The documents state that it will be transferred to the city of Vlora, where the "Pavarësia" Vocational High School is also located. "The building is located opposite the 'Ismail Qemali' Boulevard, the main street of the city that connects the school with the 'Pavarësia' Square and further to the port of Vlora," the documents state.

What will happen to the current territory of this school in Uji i Ftohtë? VoxNews has learned that the oligarchs are eyeing it, as they aim to demolish the Commercial School and use its territory to build a complex. It is learned that the aim of this entire project was to take over the territory in that place, as it is a desirable area for construction.

But if it withstood the times, even the break from Mussolini, it seems it cannot resist the “Rama” government. The decision deprives the people of Vlora, but also the thousands of personalities who have studied there, of one of the most enlightened stories.
