The Director of the Department of Public Order and Security, Dhimitraq Ziu, in a public statement on Friday, stated that so far, 127 people have been arrested in Tirana, while 244 others have been processed at large.

The senior police leader also said 'that the Cybercrime and Anti-Terrorism Investigation structures have identified several channels and communication groups through which messages with direct criminal content' and 'calls to commit extreme and terrorist acts' have been distributed.

"In addition to the events on the ground, the specialized structures of the Cybercrime and Anti-Terrorism Investigation have immediately examined the virtual space, where during intensive monitoring, several channels and communication groups have been identified, through which messages with direct criminal content have been distributed, including calls to commit extreme and terrorist acts, as well as direct threats against the lives of State Police employees.

Regarding this situation, the relevant criminal proceedings have been immediately registered for the offenses related to these extremely dangerous criminal acts, and we are cooperating closely with international partner agencies to discover IP addresses, identify the administrators of these channels and any user who calls for violence and terrorist acts.

The use of social networks through anonymous accounts should not and will not be allowed to serve currents or citizens with terrorist, extremist and violent tendencies, both inside and outside the country, who are currently in a very detailed and confidential investigative process, to assess their destabilizing intentions and actions, as well as those that are dangerous to society and the future of the country.

The State Police also expresses regret for the spread of false and malicious news that aims to exploit nationalist sentiments to create a conflictual climate and undermine citizens' trust in the State Police.

Senior police chief Dhimitraq Ziu said in a statement to the media that "127 people have been arrested by police during the 4 days of protests in Tirana on charges of destroying property and resisting the police," Ziu said.
