People employed in enterprises that exercise financial activity or in insurance companies are paid more, followed immediately by the information and communication sector. From the INSTAT data, it appears that during the first quarter of 2024, the average gross salary for the information and communication activity group increased by 6.9% compared to the same quarter last year.
How have the salaries for these two sectors changed in the last 5 years?
In a five-year time frame, salaries have had an upward trend, with some small decreases depending on the financial condition of companies in certain years. The highest average gross salary was recorded at the end of 2023, where a financial and insurance professional was paid approximately 1.5 million lek, while one employed in the field of communication and information about 1.1 million lek.
On the other hand, both for the group of financial and insurance activities, and for that of information and communication technology, the lowest salary was recorded in 2019. Respectively, 1 million ALL for the first and 760 thousand ALL for the second. There were also fluctuations near this low threshold in the first quarter of 2021 for professionals in financial and insurance activities. This is also related to the fact that a large number of enterprises were closed during that year, as a result of the impact of the covid-19 pandemic.
What is noticeable is that young people are also responding to the higher salaries in these sectors, where currently the most sought-after branches in universities are those related to the economy, as well as to information and communication technology. Despite the fact that the salaries in these two sectors are among the highest in Albania, if we compare them with the region or beyond, they continue to be significantly lower.
