The European Union promises 160 million euros for Serbia to mitigate the effects of the energy crisis that has engulfed our continent as a result of the war in Ukraine. The amount promised by the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen in the meeting of Nis with President Vučič is double what was promised to Albania.

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, ended her Balkan tour in Serbia. She promised to give 160 million euros of aid to Serbia in coping with the energy crisis, a figure that is twice the amount promised to Albania.

The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, booked a reception in Nis, where they visited the works for the construction of the Serbia-Bulgaria gas interconnection, a project which must be completed by September 2023.

But the issue of Belgrade's missing sanctions against Russia to condemn the war in Ukraine was not left out of the visit, with Von der Leyen hinting that without Moscow's punishment, there is no progress on the EU accession path.

"The speed of the EU enlargement process is in the hands of the countries that want to join. We're not starting over here, you've already done a lot. But it is necessary to share the same value and harmonize foreign policy", said the President of the European Commission.

In his reaction, the Serbian president affirmed the non-imposition of sanctions against Russia, but reminded the senior Brussels official that Belgrade respects the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but the territorial integrity of Serbia is not respected, Ora writes.

Leyen also spoke about the issue of license plates, where she indicated that the EU and its partners are working on a solution, which, according to her, will come soon.
